I believe the world is aching, is broken, torn by war, disease, environmental misuse and abuse, and missunderstandings. I think society has gone too far in independence and self-concern and needs to rediscover a community-minded orientation in order to survive and evolve. I believe in the responsibility of all people to be accountable, to evaluate their own life in the context of a global community and move forward in a way so that peoples of every place, every city, every nation may live together as equals. I believe we must live simply so others may simply live. I believe in the need to look out of ourselves and focus our work towards people and places of need, to our neighbors both locally and abroad, to the earth and its abuse, and thus share in a common vision that brings peace, health and understanding to this place.
I believe in our responsibility to nurture all living things as an extension of our selves, recognizing God in all that lives.
I believe that the world is filled with staggering beauty, has the capacity of remarkable love, and has within it and within its people all the resources and answers to the problems at hand. I believe the way we can access such resources and utilize them mindfully is by tapping into the God Essence that runs through all life.
I believe we can bring renewed health to our world through recognition of the God Essence—that which makes us alive and gives us the capacity to love—in all parts of the world, regardless of culture, lifestyle, religion or faith practice, or social position.
I do not believe we as the world’s people are all the same, but are more powerful as a global community by our differences. I believe that when we dialogue with one another, we may celebrate our differences and work together in collaboration to creatively move ahead into a bigger, brighter vision of our earthly existence.
I go into mission because the Christ that I know asks me to position myself in areas of material need, to listen to voices with a different world and spiritual perspective, to offer my talents in collaboration with partners abroad to elevate social situations. I work in areas of health, my professional passion, but attempt to do so by listening so that I may ultimately be a better teacher and physician.
My hopes are to bring some relief of suffering, to continue to support the path to a global consciousness, to inspire accountability, and most importantly to be transformed though collaboration with people interested in learning from each other. In this, I hope to work towards and celebrate a vision of a more healthy and peaceful world.

Kim and Patrick, I am excited and moved by your decision to go to Haiti. Along with the intensity of Port-au-Prince, my hope is that you have the opportunity to visit rural communities, where the richness and beauty of the Haitian culture is so alive. It would be a joy to have you come visit my host community...lets try to plan that..
ReplyDeleteI am praying for you in this transition.
Two of my favorite Haitian proverbs: "Tande ak we se de" Hearing and seeing are two different things." "Woch nan dlo pa konn doley woch nan soley." The rock in the water does not know the suffering of the rock in the sun."
with love and great respect, The Other Kim
